Reopening of a historic bar deeply rooted in the city

Javier de las Muelas reopens Casa Fernández on Santaló Street nearly four decades after its inauguration. The restaurant begins a new chapter that modernizes the space and incorporates Borja de las Muelas into the family project, a move that strengthens the strategic management of Dry Martini Organization.

The restaurateur opened the venue in May 1989 under the name Real Compañía Cervecera Casa Fernández, paying tribute to his mother, Carmen Fernández

The project drew inspiration from Central European breweries. It introduced elements uncommon for the era, such as a large communal table, an open kitchen, and continuous service from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. The establishment became a benchmark in Barcelona’s upper district during the pre-Olympic years, bringing tapas culture beyond the beachfront. The current update is a comprehensive renovation that preserves the identity and spirit of a traditional dining house. The space retains historic elements from the original interior design, such as the bar mural created by Carlos Rolando, who was responsible for the visual identity of several group venues.

Market cuisine, traditional tapas, and cocktails

The gastronomic concept maintains its traditional line focused on quality products and a classic menu of tapas and small plates. 

The kitchen serves specialties such as patatas bravastortillita de camarones (shrimp fritters), Iberian ham croquettes, and steak tartare prepared tableside in front of the diner. The beverage menu is built around a selection of beers, wines, and the signature cocktail line of the group’s flagship brand. Borja de las Muelas, who started his hospitality career at this very venue, joins the operational and strategic management after working in marketing for several multinational companies. This transition ensures the continuity of a business model centered on neighborhood service and the classic Barcelona restaurant sector.

Casual space with continuous service hours

The restaurant operates as a neighborhood meeting point in the Sant Gervasi-Galvany district. The establishment aims to offer a comfortable environment for both casual meals and quick stops at the bar. 

The service is attentive and professional, tailored to a diverse clientele that values the consistency of traditional cooking and the pace of an all-day venue. The layout of the space and table distribution accommodate different dining habits, from a quick beer to a full dinner. Management emphasizes the social role of traditional bars and maintains its focus on local service. The project coexists with other group brands in the city, such as Dry MartiniSpeakeasy, and Gimlet, which specialize in cocktails and dining.
